A Guide to Approximately 300 Websites and Other Informational Sources for the Most Impoverished Places on the Planet

This website (which replaces HelpingOverseasDirectory.org) brings together a wide variety of information to help in the most economically, unhealthy, and otherwise challenged places on the planet. Having approximately half of the world’s population, they are in what is most often called a “developing country.” The terms “Third World country,” “Global South,” and “Majority World” are also frequently used. According to the World Bank, nearly three billion people struggle to live on a per-capita income less than $3.00 daily, as measured in U.S. currency, and over one billion subsist on less than $1.25 daily. Examples of help may include collecting medical and other supplies, financial support, sharing skills and technologies, and perhaps short-term mission trips. A major goal of this website is to help bridge the gap between people who are more fortunate in various aspects and those who are not. Use this as a “toolbox” of background and contact information to assist in these places—whether or not you can personally go there.

How to use this website: All of the organizations on this website are divided into 10 categories. If you know the category of the organization(s) you want to know about, go to that category. If you know the specific name of the organization, you can enter it directly by going to “Search Categories by Keyword.” In a few instances, organizations may be listed in more than one category.

My desire to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ and the God I serve and to offer a wide variety of resources for people in the most impoverished places are my primary reasons for preparing this material. About 2/3rds of the approximately 300 organizations and other informational sources described here have a Christian focus. However, this website also has many organizations and other material that are not faith-based.

Request and disclaimer: Things change daily. With so many organizations on my website and with me being the only person researching and writing for it, I am unable to keep all the information about them accurate and up to date — despite my best efforts to do so. Almost certainly there are mistakes. If you find any or have suggestions for improving future versions, please let me know about them. The most recent updates on this website were made in early 2022, but my updating is often significantly behind the present time. One of my goals is to contact each organization on this website at least once every year for updates and corrections, but sometimes that is not possible. I continue to revise this website frequently and need your input. No warranties, expressed or implied, shall be made for the accuracy or appropriateness of this information. Nor shall the author be liable for any claims or losses of any nature due to any errors, real or perceived.

You are welcome to reproduce this information and give it to organizations, firms, and individuals helping in the developing world as long as you understand that its accuracy cannot be guaranteed.

Together in service,
