Afya recovers surplus medical supplies, hospital equipment, and humanitarian provisions from sources in the New York Metropolitan area. The supplies are sorted in their warehouse and sent overseas — mostly to Africa and the Caribbean. Afya has a categorized inventory and has sent 285 forty-foot containers with supplies abroad since when they began in 2008 and September 2018. Their Luggage for Life program enables people going on medical missions to request a 50 pound box of supplies. They have sent over 26 million dollars worth of supplies and have helped in 56 countries. Afya also provided a lot of help with the 2012 Hurricane Sandy relief efforts — thus making a postive difference in the most severely impacted areas of the northeastern U.S. as well.
