W.H.O. Standards for Donating Medical Equipment
W.H.O. (World Health Organization) published a 50 page report in 2000 about their recommendations for medical equipment donations. Find it at www.int/medical_devices/publications/en Although this a a bit dated, it still has many good points. They note that in Sub-Saharan Africa, up to 70% of the donated equipment is idle because of mismanagement of acquisition processes, lack of user training, and lack of technical support. The same problem is also found in many other places. This document has a lot of good advice. You can also find it by using a Google search for World Health Organization guidelines for health care equipment donations. Also use Google to download W.H.O. Guidelines for Medicine Donations, Revised, 2010 and find several other useful commentaries on the subject.
