Samaritan’s Purse is a large Christian organization under the leadership of Franklin Graham. Its World Medical Mission (WMM) is a health program established in 1977 that “helps provide mission hospitals with the resources they need to offer better health care to their patients” in two significant ways.

First, they are heavily involved in getting appropriate used medical equipment, making sure that it is fully workable, and shipping it overseas to Christian hospitals and clinics.

They have a large warehouse, a staff of biomedical technicians, and will send experienced teams overseas. WMM notes that “An estimated 70% of the equipment in Third World hospitals is ‘out of order’ due to missing parts, years of overuse, or a lack of trained technicians.” A related ministry is electrical power consulting for overseas clinics and hospitals — thus enabling donated equipment to be used in various situations. They do not collect or send pharmaceutical or over-the-counter medicines, but they usually have bandages, sutures, and many other kinds of medical supplies available. Samaritan’s Purse now has its own large 737 jet plane for moving supplies or people much faster than traditional methods.

Second, WMM is a sending agency for volunteer physicians and dentists. Each year hundreds of them are placed in mission hospitals and clincs for short-term visits. See the WMM website for details.

Recently WMM moved their warehouse to a new location. The new physical address is 401 Elkin Highway; North Wilkesboro, NC 28659. The other contact and website information remains the same.
