Americares is a health-focused international relief and development organization. They have donated over 17 billion dollars worth of medical goods and other emergency relief items to 164 countries since 1979. In a typical year, they will respond to 30 emergency situations. They also support innovative health initiatives and the delivery of primary health care around the world and in the U.S. As part of their Global Health work, their Medical Outreach Program enables health care professionals with a U.S. license to prescribe medicine to request pharmaceuticals (and non-licensed individuals to request non-prescription items) for medical trips on which they personally will be going.
Requests should be made at least three weeks in advance and are limited to one donation per trip and two per group or trip. Applications can be downloaded from www.americares.org/medical outreach
Americares asks for a suggested donation of $300 or more per trip to offset some of the costs of this service. Each year, Americares supports over 1,000 medical outreach trips in over 80 countries.
