Dr. Stevens draws on a wealth of experience of being a missionary physician in Kenya (where he directed and improved Tenwek Hospital into one of the best in Africa) and his services as the C.E.O. of the Christian Medical & Dental Associations (which he still does). The 40 chapters in his book cover a very wide variety of subjects. His target audience is people who are interested in becoming medical missionaries. Thus he covers subjects like how to deal with communications, cross-cultural relationships, ethics, developing support, family concerns, and various “nuts and bolts” of medical ministry. However, much of what he wrote can be applied to non-medical fields. Dr. Stevens is the head of the largest faith-based medical mission organization in the world.
