This ministry of the United Methodist Church works in cooperation with its own churches and mission programs, the United Nations, and several other organizations to help reduce and eventually eliminate malaria throughout the world. As of July 31, 2014, they had raised over $62 million dollars towards their goal of $75 million. People can contribute ten dollars for the purchase of a special treated bed net or some anti-malaria medication. Larger donations will help many more people.
Another organization with similar goals is Nothing But Nets. It is part of the United Nations Foundation in Washington, DC and likewise provides anti-malaria nets for $10.00 each. See www.nothingbutnets.net
Malaria is one the three main medical causes of death for children under the age of five in sub-Saharan Africa. Despite the fact that there has been a large reduction in malaria deaths in the past half-century, much still remains to be done.
