These insights could be used as a textbook, but lay people can get a lot from them. The authors have taught the subject for many years and have a great deal of travel and personal experience. Beginning with Biblical and historical bases, it covers many issues relevant to someone thinking about short-term experiences or considering a mission career. Many practical concerns, such as finding an agency, learning to live in a different culture, fundraising, and mistakes to avoid are discussed. It also deals with many issues in relating Christian missions to the contemporary world that should concern everyone. Along with websites, it includes Moreau’s 2000 Evangelical Dictionary of World Missions on CD and many other helpful references and leads.

The second edition of this book was published in 2015. It can be downloaded at no cost on PDF.
