They recycle surplus medical supplies and equipment (but not pharmaceuticals) for use by healthcare institutions in developing countries. Since 1998, MedShare has sent over 1,000 forty-foot shipments of medical supplies and equipment and has provided supplies to over 400 medical missions, helping 26 million medically underserved people in 117 countries. In 2020, 334 shipments were distributed.
Their website has a list of products most frequently requested and an online inventory. Recently MedShare established a Biomedical Training Program whereby Americans can go abroad and teach local people how to use the medical equipment most effectively.
