This international non-profit organization has helped 38 million people in thousands of impoverished places get safe drinking water and basic sanitation. They work through 151 carefully-screened local partner organizations in the communities where they serve and also uses innovative financing methods for potential entrepreneurs. Known as Water-Credit, such as micro-credit, it provides loans to fund water connections to utilities, toilet construction, water filters, and rainwater harvesting systems. Water.org was founded by Gary White and Matt Damon in 1990.
