The letters stand for Hunger Education And Resources Training. Since 1983, this interdenominational Christian organization has been a training center designed to prepare people to serve effectively in developing areas. Being in a sub-tropical climate and having accommodations that may be similar to those in many developing areas, it offers classes in various subjects to learn practical and technical skills, participate in acquiring problem solving and coping skills, and thus be more enabled to adapt to challenges the participants may face overseas. The classes vary in length and are scheduled throughout the year. Scholarships may be available.
Over 15 Christian colleges and universities, as well as various church groups, are affiliated with h.e.a.r.t. It is one of only a very few organizations of its kind in North America. See their website for more details. Scholarships may be available.
