Much of the poverty in developing countries can be alleviated when more small businesses are established. This is the goal of OI, a Christian organization emphasizing microfinance. They work with local partner organizations in 28 countries to help many thousands of impoverished people with an entrepreneurial spirit to get small loans (averaging $125.00) to launch or improve a business and help recipients with basic business training. They focus on helping women, and note that “Women do 67% of the world’s work, earn only 10% of the world’s income, and own only 1% of the world’s property.” OI arranges “Insight Trips” to show clients and partners involved in microfinance.
