Youth With A Mission calls itself “a global movement of Christians from many cultures, age groups, and Christian traditions who are dedicated to serving Jesus throughout the world.” Also known as YWAM (pronounced “WHY-yam”), they began in 1960 with a main focus of getting youth involved in missions. Today they still focus on youth but also involve people from age 9 to 90. Currently they work in more than 600 locations in 180 countries with a staff of over 18,000. YWAM’s staff (known as “YWAMers” come from over 130 countries, and people who are interested are invited to apply and possibly join. Go to www.ywam.org to choose a location.
A major component of YWAM is the University of Nations (www.uofn.edu). It provides missionary training courses at many of the YWAM locations around the world.
