HarvestPlus seeks to “improve nutrition and public health by developing and encouraging biofortified food crops that are rich in vitamins and minerals, and providing global leadership on biofortification evidence and technology.” They emphasize helping farmers with small holdings in eight developing countries to have food products with more vitamin A, zinc, and iron. Their goal is to reach one billion people with biofortified crops by 2030. TIME Magazine included them in a special November 28, 2016 cover story about the 25 best innovations during 2016. The article about HarvestPlus told how their improved sweet potatoes are helping people to be more healthy and have longer lives. They are part of the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI).
