Since 1994, this Christian organization has been alleviating extreme poverty in garbage dump communities worldwide. It provides garbage dwellers with food and shelter, vocational training, educational opportunities, medical care, and child care. Their medical mission teams serve between 700 and 1,000 patients per trip. They need both medical and non-medical volunteers to help the poorest of the poor. Because they are putting so much current emphasis on finding more volunteers, they are included this “Get Involved in Medical Outreach” category. See the International Samaritan website for details.
