They developed a system fitting into a 6-foot by 6-foot by 6-foot container that provides up to 1,500 people per unit with clean water and a limited amount of electricity. This is all done through solar power. It can provide enough water for 300 families in typical villages, along with enough electricity for two lights and two cell phones. Since 2014, they have provided 35 “boxes” for 10 countries. They are expected to last approximately 20 years, and the maintenance costs under $400 annually. One product can be used for desalination. A major goal is to help local women take leadership roles and have self-sustaining, affordable businesses. NEWSWEEK gave them special recognition in a June 7, 2019, article.
